I really enjoyed the lecture on Latin American Art History. I had never learned about this topic through the lens of art history before, so it was new to me. It was interesting to think about how Latin American Art gets condensed into one small, easily overlooked category despite being so rich and diverse. I remember doing a project in AP Spanish in 10th grade, where I learned about ñanduti, which is a type of lace weaving that is specific to Paraguay. Different regions have diverse and unique forms of art that definitely don’t get enough recognition. I think it would be really interesting to consider how I can incorporate some of the ideas in different Latin American art styles in my own art, but I didn’t really see my art following that path at the moment. I would, however, be interested in learning more about the specifics of art styles that originated in different Latin American regions.
