My art lets me bring my ideas to life through a physical medium and lets me step away from everyday stressors and focus solely on creating. I tend to find myself most invested in the process of artmaking: laying out proportions, mixing colors, and putting down whichever medium I happen to be working with. Above all, I make art to experience the process and I hope to continue to make art that I can enjoy the process of making.
As I work, I often deviate from my original plan. Whether the final product turns out the way I’d hoped or not, I find that the process feels much more natural when I let myself deviate from my original idea and follow tangents that stand out to me as I work. I most enjoy working with pen and ink or acrylic paint because the versatility of these materials gives me the freedom to change my mind as I work and experiment with new techniques.
My work centers around the idea of transformation and the spectral elements that can be observed in everyday life. Over time, everything is transformed, whether through a physical change or through a change in perspective. For example, at certain angles, light reflects and refracts in different ways, creating a bright, colorful haze that hangs in the air, and I work to capture that in my art. In addition, I am also constantly experimenting with my art style and different techniques. I hope to include more expressive techniques in my work and depict subjects that are more closely connected with the themes I portray.
